Mariate and Brian will discuss the most critical pieces for a founder to get right, including how to manage operations (culture building, scaling teams, managing a board of directors) and your own psychology as a founder. Brian will share highlights from his new book, Viva the Entrepreneur: Founding, Scaling, and Raising Venture Capital in Latin America, in which he details his mistakes as a founder, so that you can avoid them.

Brian Requarth is the co-founder and former CEO of Viva Real. In its early days, the company bootstrapped its operation, eventually raising over $74 million USD. Under his management, the team scaled to 500+ team members. Brian led merger negotiations with ZAP Imóveis and served as chairman of the combined company, Grupo ZAP. In March 2020, Grupo ZAP signed a deal to be acquired by OLX Brasil for R$2.9bn (~US$642M). Brian is currently building Latitud and is an active angel investor in Latin America.

Mariate Arnal – Head of Latin America at Stripe
Maria Teresa Arnal (commonly known as Mariate) is currently the head of LATAM for Stripe.
She recently joined Stripe from Google, where she was the managing director for Mexico. Her background spans from (too) many years in ad tech at companies such as Microsoft, Twitter, and Google, to management consulting (Booz Allen, BCG), while also starting her own company, Clarus, later sold to WPP. She is passionate about how technology can help solve many of the problems in Latin America and, particularly, the impact that Stripe can have for the economic landscape, by growing the GDP of the internet. She is also excited about helping entrepreneurs grow their businesses, and supporting women in their quest for empowerment and realizing their full potential.
